Gestures originated as a term to describe expressionist artists such as Willem de Kooning, Franz Kline, Robert Motherwell, Hans Hoffman, Cy Twombly and others who were also referred to as action painters. The idea behind creating a gestural movement is to physically act out mark making and use lines, scratch marks and other techniques to show organic motion and impulse.
With this series I am moving away from static abstract landscapes to organic movement in the form of abstract figures. I seek to represent something that tells a unique story that represents an emotion or an alternate reality.
There is a shared interest in nature and landscape between form and figure. They often coexist harmoniously, so with this new series, my hope is that the viewer will see a continuation of my hand and aesthetic that pushes forward.
